The 2nd attempt [Quest 3 Sleek Gunstock Controller Mounts], a remix based on [Quest 3 Sanlaki sleek gun controller mount] from [FinlessBob] is very promising. The mounts have a perfect and super-tight fit. <b>Latest development status:</b> - Angle and position of the horizontal mount for the dual-left controller mount has been optimized - Contact pressure pad for the right controller mount has been re-positioned and enlarged There are two versions for each controller mount, one with separate cap and one with the cap attached to the mount via short chain. Might be useful in case of frequent assembly/disassembly, so that the tiny cap does not get lost. The chain is from thing [Chain generator] by [Sal]. For the left controller I have added models with single mount. I also did create a remix-ready version of the mounts, [Quest 3 Sleek Controller Mounts], w/o any additional parts, just the mounts. Feel free to use for your remix. *** ### Description This a magnetic gunstock remix, based on the popular Sanlaki design. The source is the excellent remix [Improved & Simplified] by [Teque5]... After printing the source thing I observed that the 1/2’’ steel pipes I did acquire have a slightly bigger diameter than the ones the thing has been designed for. So I started tinkering with the design and in the end modified/optimized a bit more… ### Notes The controller mount models are for Oculus Quest 2 (right dominant hand), but any Sanlaki controller mount will work. If original Sanlaki controller mount models are used, the pipe exerts need to be enlarged slightly. Can be done easily with sand paper. *** ### Modifications/Optimizations - The barrel has been shortened and combined with the gunstock body in one model. The transition zone has been modified, in order to cross-fade different width/height of both models. - The body is designed for one long steel pipe (400mm), hence no need for the pipe coupler model from the original design. This increases the stability of the gunstock, removing the pipe coupler as „weak part“ and enlarges the forward grip area. - Adding of tactical mounting points to the gunstock body on both sides. The position does not cause occlusion with a sling, the mounting points are behind the dominant controller. - 1/2’’ steel pipes available to me seem to have a slightly bigger diameter than the ones used for the original design, so the gunstock body has been scaled to 104% and modified for perfect fit of right hand controller. The pipe exert for controller mounts have been modified accordingly. - The adjustable stock has been modified, adding a screw for connection to the gunstock body. With this modification a steel pipe is no longer required, reducing the overall weight of the gunstock. - Optionally the original adjustable stock design with steel pipe can be used. The original model modified for slightly larger pipe diameter is included. The steel pipe increases the overall weight, but the gunstock is better balanced. Decide for yourself what works better for you... - In order to make the assembly of lock-pin mechanism of the adjustable stock easier, the lock-pin has been scaled to 99% and the hole for the M3 screw has been increased to 3.2mm - Modification of left hand controller mount for dual grip, adding a horizontally mounted pipe connector. The model for normal left hand mount is included as well. - The muzzle model has been scaled to 104% - The model for the scope/sight from original design has been removed *** ### Source [Magnetic Gunstock for Oculus Quest 2 (Improved & Simplified)]: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4538594 [Teque5]: https://www.thingiverse.com/teque5/designs [Magnetic Gunstock for Oculus Quest 1, Quest 2]: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4825324 [Sanlaki]: https://www.thingiverse.com/sanlaki/designs [FGC-9 adjustable butt stock by Untangle Remixed for Oculus Quest]: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4565145 [slykittycat]: https://www.thingiverse.com/slykittycat/designs The design is based on [Magnetic Gunstock for Oculus Quest 2 (Improved & Simplified)] by [Teque5]. With controller grip covers as shown in the pictures this work fine. You can also use double-sided stickers listed in source thing part list. - For me the assembly of adjustable stock lock-pin and spring worked perfectly fine w/o glue - The adjustable stock in pictures is constructed with 200mm steel pipe. The body is not the latest version from the model included. I did make some optical changes to the barrel/body cross-fade zone afterwards, but did not print it yet. *** ### Print settings With 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm resolution the female crew threads are "sloppy", but still work perfectly fine for screwing. Anyhow I would recommend 0.15mm resolution. I did use 30% gyroid infill, but less may be fine as well. Up to now I printed the thing using Tough PLA only. No problems, very stable. The gunstock did survive one or two unintended drop tests. :-D All models, beside the Quest 3 controller mounts, can be printed w/o supports. I would recommend a brim for better adhesion of first layer.
