8-29-19 Update : I discovered superior magnets on amazon that are coated and significantly stronger. I applied epoxy to bond the magnets in place but am not satisfied with the strength of the initial magnets ordered. The magnets will hold a springfield mod 2, though they don't possess the desired level of strength for automotive mounting. If you intend to mount it vertically on a wall, they are adequate. The gap is 25mm wide, accommodating any pistol that measures 25mm or less in length.
