Magnetic filament holder for Prusa MK2
thingiverse
A custom filament spool holder for the Prusa MK2 3D printer that has been in use for quite some time now - feel free to modify it to fit other printer models. To create the parts shown in the first picture, print out two of part A, two of part B, and one of part C, then combine them with the materials listed below as depicted in the accompanying images. The hexagonal pattern is not a design element but rather an infill pattern used to add strength to the model. The filament utilized for printing this model was PLA Extrafill "Vertigo Grey". Required components include: - Four N52 magnets measuring 10x10x5mm - Three M3 bolts, each 14mm in length - Three M3 nuts - Two ball bearings with dimensions of 8x22x7mm - One steel rod, 100mm in length and 8mm in diameter - A teflon tube with an inner diameter of 3mm, an outer diameter of 4mm, and a length of 5cm - Some superglue Instructions to assemble the holder are as follows: 1. Print out the required parts. 2. Remove any supports used during printing (if applicable). 3. Insert the magnets into their designated positions and secure them with superglue, ensuring they are properly aligned before gluing. 4. Attach the steel rod to the ball bearings using superglue, following the assembly shown in the images. 5. Secure the rod with the attached ball bearings to part A. 6. Slide the teflon tube into part C. 7. Place parts B and C onto the 3D printer. 8. Insert the M3 nuts into their designated nut traps and screw them securely using the provided bolts. 9. Place a spool of filament on the rod, then position it on the holder, finally guiding the free end of the filament into its holder.
