I added three 10 mm x 3 mm magnets purchased on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NGYFDOL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The magnets possess sufficient strength to suspend the device upside down and fit snugly around its base, preventing it from falling out while inverted. Update #1: A circular base with holes for magnet placement was created. It is specifically designed to support a cup holder.
