Magnetic Drawer Lock (child safety)

Magnetic Drawer Lock (child safety)

thingiverse

This is a modified version of magnetic cupboard locks by user Non-ICE, tailored for use with pull-out drawers rather than cabinets/cupboards. Additional hardware needed per lock includes: #6 x 1" screw or similar (x2) 8mm x 3mm cylindrical magnet (x1) The slim profile allows for installation between the drawer side and cabinetry frame. Attach the latch to the cabinet frame using a screw. Install a magnet in the hook by pushing it in with pliers if necessary, then attach the hook to the side of the drawer using a screw. Leave the hook screw loose enough so that the hook can pivot on it. The hammer of the hook is pulled down by gravity to catch the latch. When a magnetic key is applied to the face of the drawer, the hook is pulled back off the latch, allowing the drawer to open. A small hole is provided in the magnet chamber for removal of the magnet using a paperclip if needed. Any magnetic key design can be used to open the locks (such as the one found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2793122). To temporarily disable the lock, lightly tighten the screw that the hook pivots on so that it can no longer pivot forward. These have been tested on my kitchen drawers and work great at keeping my infant from opening them. User datdiy's remix of the original design inspired these changes to the hook and latch.
