Magnetic Dosing Funnel

Magnetic Dosing Funnel

I designed this magnetic espresso dosing funnel to fit a 54mm filter basket. I've only used it on my Breville 54mm portafilter, but I think it should work on any portafilter with a 54mm basket. The funnel assembly includes 16 small (Ø3 x 2mm) magnets that attract to the rim of the filter basket to help secure the funnel in place. (Specifically, I used these magnets: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NZTN426?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) The funnel sits on the top rim of the basket, with no rim wall protruding down into the basket so as to not create any voids in the puck volume. After pressing the magnets into their pockets, I secured each of them with a bit of 2-part epoxy. Besides helping to locate and secure the funnel on my portafilter, the magnets also allow me to attach the funnel to the side of my espresso machine. It should be noted that one variable that can impact how well this will work with any given filter basket is the exact grade of stainless steel the filter basket is made from, and its associated magnetic properties. Some grades of stainless steel are effectively non-magnetic. There even appears to be variability in magnetic properties among the 4 filter baskets that came with my Breville Infuser espresso machine (both 1 and 2 shot, pressurized and non-pressurized baskets). Each of them attracts to the magnet, but with noticeably variable force. Note: The 6-prong distribution tool shown in one of the photos is another one of my designs (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5622225)
