Magnetic Door Handles

Magnetic Door Handles

thingiverse

This is a set of handles for an enclosure door where doors swing outwards. The intention is to insert magnets into each handle so that when the door closes, they hold them together. Update: A 3-inch high one with the same hole sizes has also been included. The magnets used are ten pieces of rare earth magnets from Harbor Freight (http://www.harborfreight.com/10-piece-rare-earth-magnets-67488.html). The holes for mounting are .149" diameter holes designed for tapping out 10-24 or 10-32 (I'm not familiar with metric measurements, as I've been working in imperial units for too long). IMPORTANT NOTE: Before gluing the magnets into place, MAKE SURE that the north pole of the first handle is oriented to the south pole of the other handle. If you don't do this, you'll end up with a door OPENER instead of a door CLOSER. Print Settings Printer: Monoprice Maker Select Plus Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 200 micron Infill: 25% Notes: I printed these handles upside down, using 15 skirt outlines that are three layers thick. The top surface is flat and doesn't require support generation if printed in this orientation. How I Designed This I used MOI3D design software. It's one of the best organic design programs I've found.
