Magnetic Dice Box, Tray, and Tower
thingiverse
This is an ultimate dice box, tower, and tray combo set. It features a drawer designed to hold 7 different types of standard dice (d4 d6, d8, d10, d10, d12, and d20), with space for at least 7 of each type in your collection. The set includes several holes for 8x1mm magnets that securely keep the drawer closed and the tower pieces together when in use. For consistent polarity, assign a direction to one magnet as south or north and stick to it throughout assembly. To create a full set, you'll need a tray top, tray bottom, drawer, and each of the tower pieces. This design requires at least 200mm bed size for proper printing; see misc instructions below for tips on how to print large objects with Cura. For an authentic wood grain look, I used Hatchbox Wood Filament and applied it using the online Wood Grain tool. After printing, I sanded and stained the pieces for a professional finish. 8/13/2019: Modified pins on tray bottom into holes. For easy alignment, simply clip off 10mm of filament to use as pins in the oversized holes, which are designed to accommodate shrinking during printing. Tray bottom now marked v6. 4/16/2019: Increased height of tray bottom (now marked v5) to provide more vertical tolerance for the drawer. All tolerances have been adjusted to 0.3mm, so ensure your printer can handle this level of precision. If you're still experiencing issues, consider printing the drawer at 99.5% scale for extra room. 8/23/2018: Added DXF source file for compatibility with openSCAD editing software. Note that I don't use openSCAD, so this may not work as intended. 5/25/2018: Included magnet polarity charts to help with assembly. 1/23/2018: Provided source files in STEP and F3D formats for easier editing. This design was created in Fusion 360, so it's recommended that you use this software to make changes. To alter magnet size, edit the parameters (Modify -> Change Parameters) and adjust MagDia, MagDep, or MagDis as needed. V6: Fixed one of the half circle cutouts on the tray top and made it 2mm deeper to accommodate a felt bottom if desired. V5: Thicker dice inscriptions on Tray top for improved visibility. This change is purely cosmetic. V4: Enlarged pegs and holes for connecting upper and lower trays to make printing easier. Magnet holes on vertical faces are now 8.45mm instead of 8.2mm to accommodate shrinking when using the wood grain tool. Removed old files to declutter the design. V3: Added a version with 23mm depth in the drawer, which may be beneficial for those with slightly larger dice. Note that each dice slot is 23mm wide, so this might be the tallest this design can handle. V2: Cleaned up the arcane circle on top and marked files as V2 for convenience. I didn't apply this change to the version with a support, as it's technically unnecessary.
