Magnetic Child Lock Key

Magnetic Child Lock Key

I'm installing magnetic child locks on all the cabinets and drawers in my house to keep my kid out of things. I've been using Safety 1st brand locks, but they come with kits that are short on keys and it's impossible to find one when you need it most. So I ordered magnets from eBay and designed some housings to make my own keys. Each key requires two 25mm x 2mm neodymium magnets. Thanks to the rare earth magnets, these keys work stronger and better than the originals. They also double as excellent fridge magnets. Note: I've only tested these keys with Safety 1st locks, but they should work with any brand of lock that has a similar design. Just make sure the polarity of your magnets matches the ones on your original key. Printer Brand: Robo 3D Printer: R1 ABS + PLA Model Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2mm Infill: 25% Align your magnets correctly by checking to ensure that the polarity on each magnet is aligned properly to operate your locks. The easiest way to do this is to make sure the bottom of your original key and the new key repel each other. If they try to stick together, flip the magnets in your new key around 180 degrees. Test fitting the magnets by checking if they repel the original key. Glue in the magnets by putting a few drops of superglue around the base of the key to prevent them from rattling inside once glued. Then drop in the magnets, making sure they're oriented correctly. Add a few drops of glue just below the magnet holes. Glue your key together by applying a thin bead of glue around the rim and adding a drop to each hole in the top of the key. Line up the holes with the pins in the base of the key, then press the two halves together, holding for 15-30 seconds to allow the glue to set. Add a final touch by running a thin bead of glue around the rim.
