Magnetic Brine Shrimp Feeder
thingiverse
The design is based on the concepts by Paul_B at ReefCentral and others in this thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2113800. The idea involves placing baby brine shrimp inside a unit, then deploying it into the tank for slow-feeding fish like Mandarins, Seahorses, and others that can consume the shrimp through the net. The net prevents the shrimp from escaping into the filter system. This model features magnetic attachment, allowing users to fill, deploy, and retrieve the unit easily. To create the netting, use fine mesh such as pantyhose to cover a ring, then press it into the lid. Apply super glue if necessary, and trim excess material. Fine Tulle may be too large for the hole size; micro mesh is recommended, but pantyhose reportedly works well. A 32mm x 2mm rare earth magnet is required. Coat the magnet holder lids with aquarium sealant, then press in the magnets. Apply another coat, ensuring the edges of the lids are coated. Press the lids and magnets into place within the base and external magnet holder, and secure with a spring clamp or similar. Allow 24 hours for drying. The lifespan of the magnets is unknown at this point; it depends on the material used for printing and sealing. The author has used spray-on Plastidip to coat magnets but lacks long-term reliability information due to limited usage. If magnet failure occurs, the design will be updated accordingly.
