Magma interaction at Bingie Bingie Point
sketchfab
Two major phases within the Tuross Head Tonalite are tonalite and numerous mafic diorites that dominate the landscape. Evidence of sedimentary deposit-like features can be observed here, including load casts, rip-up clasts, and flame structures that tell a story of the past. Load cast-like formations emerge where dense diorite magma sinks into less dense tonalite magma (with stratigraphic 'up' pointing towards the top of this initial view). The diorite can also be seen to solidify against cooler tonalite, which in turn exhibits back-veining into the overlying diorite, a phenomenon reminiscent of flame structures. A 12-centimeter-long compass is positioned horizontally and oriented northwards.
