Magic Wand (top)
thingiverse
My kid, who's really into this sort of thing, snapped his purchased magic wand in half, so I crafted him a new one. It measures about 100mm wide at 100% zoom. I wouldn't suggest printing anything smaller than that, as the shaft won't fit snugly into its designated holder. This DIY project is essentially two identical halves, mirrored to create a seamless look when glued back together. I printed mine in PLA and used super glue for the bonding process. By doing it this way, both halves display the same diamond-shaped patterns. The printing time came out to about 45 minutes or so, using approximately 3.5 meters of material. For best results, I recommend sticking with layer thicknesses no thicker than .15mm due to all the intricate details involved. If you print at .25mm like I did, it will end up looking a bit rough. To create the shaft, I made sure the hole is just the right size - 1/4 inch or 6mm to be precise - allowing for easy insertion of a wooden dowel that matches in diameter. You can find these exact sticks at your local dollar store by the bundle. Hit like, collect it, or whatever action you think fits best. I even improved upon my initial design!
