Magic Top Toy
thingiverse
Hello Folks, Here is the Magic Top Toy that's about to blow your mind! What makes this toy so unique? Well, for starters, it spins like crazy for a long time - we're talking 1-2 minutes common, but I've seen one spin for an incredible 3 whole minutes! The domed glass surface keeps everything contained and once the top is spinning perfectly, it's almost invisible, giving off this eerie "frozen" effect. You can even hold the bezel in one hand and spin the top with the other, which makes it super easy to manipulate on the concaved surface of the glass. And here comes the Magic part: you can print out a PDF, cut out the wheel with answers, place it under the dome/bezel, ask your question, and watch as the Magic Top points to the answer! All you need is a simple piece of domed glass (you can get one at any craft store or online for a few bucks). Print out the bezel file attached, bond the glass into the bezel using Silicone Adhesive, and follow the guide in the attached PDF to create your very own Magic Top. Anyone with a small lathe can make this toy - I chose to use an Alum spin shaft and Brass Top Body, but feel free to get creative and make it however you want! Just remember that weight and center of gravity are key: the higher the center of gravity, the less stable it seems to be. Make sure the top tip is true and not damaged for best results. One last thing: please don't spin this toy on hard floors like tile, slate, or hardwood - any fall greater than a few inches will ruin the tip! It's best to spin on linoleum or carpet. If it goes off the dish while spinning, you're probably spinning too hard - start softly and work your way up. Pay attention to technique and you'll be spinning this toy like a pro in no time!
