Magic Nut Thing!
thingiverse
We're taking a closer look at the "Magic Nut Thing," a concept that came to me in a vivid waking dream. I was driving, but the idea struck me like a bolt of lightning. Necessity is indeed the mother of invention, and success often has many fathers - until they all show up on Maury Povich's DNA test results. This design is a game-changer because it's ambidextrous, making one model fit both nuts and bolts seamlessly. Plus, if you want to glue them in place, that's an option too. The second part of the assembly hides the bolt from the first, adding not only a cosmetic touch but also a safety feature. I've started uploading the most common size used - 1/4 Inch nut/bolt version for cinching or attaching various things. If you need a custom size, our code is published on Open-SCAD (http://openscad.diy3dtech.com/magic-nut-thing/), but it requires the developer version (2017.01.20) to run, which can be found here (http://www.openscad.org/downloads.html). Be aware that this design does consume a lot of CPU power due to the knurling library used in its creation. **Build Note:** For best results, print one out and match it to your nut/bolt combo. If the size is off, simply use the _scale_ function in your slicer to adjust the size. **Open-SCAD Fans:** We've also uploaded a video on the Open-SCAD Channel at https://youtu.be/qRvlzpm-In0, and made the code available here: http://openscad.diy3dtech.com/magic-nut-thing/.
