Magic belt buckle (self closing)
prusaprinters

This belt buckle is an extended and improved version of the strap buckle that I developed for tightening my motorbike tarpaulin. The location of the buckle, just below the bike, is hard to reach with one hand, so I needed something that closes automatically. And it does so very well ;-)

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/84848-magic-strap-buckle-magnetic

Now this belt buckle is wider, even stronger and holds 4 magnets instead of 2. I have real-live tested this belt buckle now for more than a month and I can highly recommend it. It saves a couple of seconds very time you go the restroom. It opens faster than a normal belt buckle, and it closes even much faster. This might up to an hour or more per year that you can spent for what really matters for you.

All you need is a 35mm strap, which is very easy and cheap to get online, and four standard magnets 4x4x2mm.

Printing:

I strongly recommend to print the parts from PETG, as that is much more flexible than PLA and will hold the magnets tight. Simply print all parts in the uploaded orientation at 100% infill.

Assembly:

The magnets can be pressed in and might even hold forever like this. I still recommend to clue them in with a tiny amount of glue that works for your material. I use PETG from DasFilament.de and I know that YUKI MODEL superglue works fantastic for that material.

Make sure that you insert the magnets in different orientations on the first part (i.e. north up for one magnet, south up on the other). That way you avoid that the belt tries to close off-center. Apparently you need to insert the magnets on the other part respectively, to have the two parts attract each other.

Please give feedback:

I'd highly appreciate a like, a rating or even a make if you like this part.

Happy printing!
