Maenad (Bacchante) at The Louvre, Paris

Maenad (Bacchante) at The Louvre, Paris

myminifactory

The wreath of ivy and vine unmistakably identifies this sculpture as a Maenad, a devotee who walked alongside the procession of the god Dionysus - Bacchus, the god of wine. This statue in the Louvre could be either an ancient Greek original created in the third century BC or a Roman replica from that era, which has since been lost. The right arm and vase are both restored. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks worldwide for free public access. Scan the World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items around you and want to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how to participate. Scanned using photogrammetry technology (processed with Agisoft PhotoScan).
