Located in the Convent of Saint Agnes of Bohemia, Prague's historic Old Town, in a neighborhood called "Na Františku". Founded by Princess Agnes, later revered as Saint Agnes of Bohemia, sister of King Wenceslas I, back in 1231. She took on the role of the monastery's first abbess within the Order of Saint Clare. The initial group of women arrived at the convent in autumn 1233 - five nuns from Assisi and seven noble girls from Bohemia. They belonged to the Poor Clares, also known as The Order of Poor Ladies, established by Saints Clare of Assisi and Francis of Assisi on Franciscan principles in 1212. This was the first convent of the Order of Poor Clares north of the Alps.
