Maddalena Penitente, a masterpiece crafted by renowned Treviso sculptor Antonio Canova, stands at approximately 90 centimeters tall and bears an intriguing history spanning from 1793 to 1796. Initially acquired by French diplomat Commissioner Juliot, it changed hands in 1808 when it was passed on to the esteemed Milanese patron Count Giovanni Battista Sommariva. Following his demise, it found a new home with Mr. d'Aguado. The original version proudly resides at Palazzo Doria-Tursi within the Strada Nuova Museums' exhibition route in Genoa. A replica can be found at the Antonio Canova Gipsoteca Museum.
