Madame Roll
myminifactory
The sculpture depicts Madame Roll, the wife of the painter Alfred Roll, a real good friend of Rodin. The woman is depicted with elegant clothes, her hair tied up and her clothes decorated with roses. Madame Rolle modelled for Rodin to get her bust sculpted just between 1882 and 1883, the marble portrait was then exposed at the Salon in 1887. The roses on the woman’s breast, are sculpted with the use of a technique that Rodin appreciated especially at the early stages of his artistic career. He used a plaster of a real rose in order to sculpt the beautiful decoration.
