Using a typical smartphone light from eBay, you can easily upgrade it to a three-level macro light. This clever hack allows the object to throw nearly no shadow through the ring of LEDs, giving you the flexibility to use higher dazzle numbers with a higher depth of field. To get started, simply order a ring from eBay (like http://www.ebay.com/itm/122124151855?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT). Then, carefully cut the front of the ring to expose its LED components. Next, identify and protect the connection point for the cables. Cut along the back seam, taking care not to damage any electronic parts or the battery case. Once you've isolated these components, glue them onto a sturdy base. Finally, attach an adapter thread that fits your camera's specifications. The larger circle is designed to accommodate lenses up to 82 mm in diameter. With everything securely glued together, you're ready to capture stunning macro photographs!
