<p>The Macintosh Quadra 605 is one of the best 68k Macs you can get, a 68040 at 25MHz that is easily clocked up to 33MHz in a slim case. It is a great machine to keep around for the old stuff and compared to the big Quadras they are easy to find and don't take up too much space. Unfortunately the smart case design relied too much on the flexibility of ABS plastic - now that it is old and brittle any flexing is likely to result in snapping. I was shipped one recently where 20-30 pieces of plastic fell out as soon as I opened it. The machine was unusable because the logic board wasn't held in place any more - as soon as a connector was pushed in, the board was pushed in.</p> <p>This replacement PCB mount can save an old Mac. It is designed to fit under the PCB and is anchored by fitting behind the two square blocks that hold the pins that the PCB slides under - it is unlikely the blocks will have broken off so far down that there is no base left. If they are that's not ideal but this will still work. It is also held down by some "ears" that clip down into the fan hole.</p> <p>By inserting 6 M3 hex nuts into the bottom of the print there are threads to anchor the fan (four bolts) and the PCB (two bolts). The smaller print is designed to fit on the edge of the PCB and screws down to the larger print. With this in place the logic board and fan are mounted securely.</p> <p>You can see some other pieces of white plastic attached to some of the case pieces - these are too simple to bother uploading, just rectangles or L-shaped pieces attached with epoxy resin.
