Machete - big ass knive - Halloween prop
thingiverse
I was desperate for a machete to complete my Halloween costume and I couldn't find any, so I took matters into my own hands and crafted one myself. This impressive replica consists of two primary components: Blade (~490mm) Handle (~180mm) When assembled, the total length measures about 610mm, requiring likely some trimming to fit within a standard print bed size. To achieve this, I employed Netfabb software using my regular license to cut it into five separate pieces. Don't worry about sharp edges; all angles are rounded for safety. Due to printer congestion with another project, I was unable to complete printing and post-processing in one go. Once finished, I will share the end result via photographs. Reassembling after printing involves adding long tubes to the blade to enable secure assembly and adjustment to desired dimensions. A suitable rod is approximately 800mm long overall but can be trimmed to about 400mm length with adequate adhesion using acetone. The assembled machete holds together securely via two M4 screws (each 12mm long) and nuts. My handle, printed recently, has been treated with a smooth finish from cold acetone vapor at the nozzle of my printer at 0.17mm layer height. It turned out there was an incident with the soldering iron during nut insertion, but I've learned to adapt to such minor setbacks without major concerns.
