The MAA-1A Piranha is still in active service. The MAA-1B Piranha, however, is a cutting-edge 4th-generation air-to-air missile created through a joint partnership between Mectron and Airbus Defence and Space.[8] This collaborative effort has reached its final development stage, with rigorous testing involving over 40 guided flights successfully completed by April 2012.
