If you have access to an M8 router bit, you might find it more convenient to use a smaller screw in your sledge. These adapters fit snugly into an M8-sized hole and can accommodate either an M6 or M5 nut. With a small amount of silicone sealant, this setup is much easier to move than a raw M8.
