M6 Nut Knob (metric), roof rack replacement

thingiverse

I bought a second-hand roof rack, but three out of four necessary nut knobs were missing from the package. I quickly found a workaround by using ordinary nuts, though there is still a risk of scratching my car while working with a wrench! To solve this problem, I created custom replacements based on the remaining nut and printed them as needed. The design features a captive nut inside the part itself. When designing these parts, I didn't add any unnecessary details or pauses, but made sure to print multiple pieces at once so that I could easily insert the nut while another piece was still being printed. To do this successfully, I left some space between each part to ensure that I had enough room to access them while the printer was working. I work with FreeCAD and have shared my design files for anyone who wants to modify or learn from them.
