The M551 Sheridan was a versatile AR/AAV that saw action in the Vietnam War as a light tank. Tank crews admired its reliability, throwing off tracks much less often than the M48A3, and its lightweight design made it easier to maneuver through muddy terrain. However, higher command disapproved of its aluminum construction, which left it vulnerable to enemy fire, resulting in significant combat losses.
