M3D Spool Container
thingiverse
I've tried this before, but nothing seemed to work with my particular spools. Still, I wanted to see if I could make it happen. That's when I headed over to Tinker Cad and broke out my caliper - thanks for the inspiration! With a bit of tinkering, I managed to create something that works like a charm with all my M3D 250 ft empty filament rolls. To print this, I used PLA at 10% infill, but you might want to crank it up a notch or two. I did have to drill a tiny hole because I'm still figuring out how to do it properly - for now, I just used the smallest drill bit I could find and made a small hole in the corner. From there, I threaded some solid core speaker wire through the hole and looped it around - you can see pictures of this process if you take a look. To keep everything from falling apart, I simply attached a small clasp to the front.
