I was aiming to design a hovership, but my printer is too small, so I created my own model from scratch. I drew inspiration from the "Mini Flame Wheel Style Quadcopter frame" design, but decided to use identical components as my other quadcopter has. This is just a prototype; I still need to receive all parts before it can be thoroughly tested, but I'll keep you updated on its performance! Everything has been sliced in Cura and imported into M3D software for printing. To avoid warping, I used a 20-brim print setting and it worked beautifully! 150914 Since my M3D printer isn't big enough to produce a hovership, I designed one from the ground up. I ordered a CC3D Atom flight controller, DYS1806 motors, a 12A SimonK ESC, 5030 propellers, and a 1300mAh battery – all parts will be used to test this design. So far, I've printed the arms and attached them to two temporary 1806 motors to see how they'll perform. Today, I'll print the top plate and observe its appearance; my goal is to create a 230mm quadcopter. 150915 I finished printing the top and bottom plates yesterday using Cura for precise control over every detail – it worked perfectly! Then, I inserted the print settings into M3D software. Now that the arms are in place with two scrap 1806 motors attached, my focus is on locating the receiver and flight controller. I think I'll install the flight controller on top of the model, mount the ESCs to the arms, and consider adding a lower deck for the receiver. Today's task: figuring out how it all comes together! Also designed a skid today; I plan to print it tonight to test its functionality. 150918 To gain more space between the top and bottom plates, I changed their hole pattern – this is now a 242mm quadcopter. The new design should offer better aerodynamics! Additionally, I printed the skid with double-sided tape. However, it could use some improvement for better grip. I plan to make adjustments to get an even larger surface area on which to stick the skid. 150920 Parts like DYS1806 motors, the receiver, flight controller, and ESC are still waiting in transit. Despite this setback, I printed new skids with improved tape-grabbing abilities as well as a flat spot for holding the battery. I use a 1300mAh battery for these builds; they seem to work nicely together! Also added an RC-Explorer strap for stability – we'll see how everything comes together! 150921 Today's adjustment involved modifying the skids. 150922 Just printed new skid models that fit great and keep my battery more secure in place. Now waiting for all remaining components. Check out a photo of it!
