M3D External Stepper Motor

M3D External Stepper Motor

This allows M3D users to take the Stock Stepper Motor and move it to an external mounted position, using an adjustable pressure lever for filament feeding through a bowden tube. Several flaws in the M3D design led many of us to create mods like this one. I initially developed an external setup with a Nema17 stepper motor but that required custom firmware and step modifications for tuning purposes. This design enables users to continue using original M3D software or third-party software without switching back and forth. The design originated from a member in the M3D Google+ community (Andrea Munegato) and I added a mount to the project, labeled Ulti-Mount in the files. All parts can be printed without support material. There are two versions of the Ulti-Mount: one for vertical printing and another for horizontal printing. The lever can be rotated to a vertical position, eliminating the need for support material, as well as the motor case with a large opening horizontally. To assemble this design, you will only need screws to hold it together along with some springs for tension and a bowden tube with connectors.
