Note: I have uploaded a version 2 of this model, which sits closer to the top of the extruder body but is also narrower to provide better clearance at the filament input ports. The new design includes enlarged holes for the M3 screws that hold the fan, eliminating the need to chase these with a drill bit. The Quad head's small motors tend to run hot, prompting this effort to control excess heat. Printing in PETG is recommended as it comes into direct contact with the part of the head being cooled. A Noctua 40mm fan is used on this modification. For reference, please visit: https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-a4x10-5v This fan mount fits snugly into a pair of what appear to be accessory rail connectors on the Quad head, requiring only two small slots in the sticker to clear the color indicator decal. The model sits tightly against the motor cables that feed the back two motors (1 & 2). To fit M3 screws, I had to chase the screw holes with a 7/64 bit. Several users have asked about wiring the fan. A quick and simple solution is to solder splice the fan parallel to the cooling fan on the back side of the extruder. A more elaborate option involves sourcing 2-pin 2.54mm fan connectors and pins, then using a crimping tool to fabricate Y connector cables. Alternatively, users can consider swapping out all connectors for the more common 3-pin variation. The original 2-pin connectors used by M3D are nearly identical to those commonly found on computer fans but harder to source - I'm fairly certain they're KF2510 connectors. Please post comments on any issues or suggestions with the model.
