M3 universal hex screw and nut knob
thingiverse
I've never uploaded anything as straightforward as this to Thingiverse before and I'm hesitant to share it. I know there are already many excellent knobs available, but I created this part as part of a more intricate design where space was extremely limited for a M3 screw connection, and I had to find a way to avoid using tools at all costs - it's an additional support component on the telescope tube of my vacuum cleaner that tends to wear out over time. The only reason I printed five of these parts, despite needing just two, is that I wanted each part to have extra time to cool down before adding the next layer. This technique greatly improves quality when printing small components with a limited Ender 3 Pro setup. As a result, I had three spare parts left and began exploring alternative uses for them. Let's move on from the backstory. These little parts have proven invaluable in various types of small mechanical connections that require frequent adjustments. For instance, they've been used to create rudder adjustment scales for my model airplanes, as seen in the attached photograph. To be honest, this post is more about the concept of using a M3 screw with a hex head in one part and a M3 nut in another part. When screwed together, the result looks perfectly symmetrical. Happy printing! Stay safe at home with your 3D printer until the coronavirus is just a distant memory we tell our kids about on long winter nights...
