M3 Roll Pin
thingiverse
Introducing roll pins as alternatives to M3 screws, designed for lightweight projects where steel screws are excessive. These hollow cylinders with a longitudinal slot distribute stress evenly and have a beveled end for easier insertion. Available in .stl files from 4mm-16mm. Key specifications include an outer diameter of 3.4mm, inner diameter of 2.0mm, and thickness of 0.75mm. Holes sized 3.1-3.2mm work best, while 3.0mm holes may cause issues. Referenced charts suggest clearance of 3.2mm for a close fit and 3.4mm for a medium fit. Made from PLA, these pins are non-reusable and require a punch for removal. Printing suggestions include .25mm layer height, 4 shells, and 120mm/sec @ 230 degrees on a MakerBot Replicator 2 with no support or raft. Printing multiple pins at once is advisable due to their small size.
