M2 Filament Cleaner

M2 Filament Cleaner

This is a handy tool for cleaning MakerGear M2 printers, built to keep the filaments clean and fresh during spool changes. Holding it all together is a strong clothespin spring that makes removal a breeze from the filament during switchouts. For extra convenience, two guide holes have been included which allow users to switch between guides if one starts wearing out – simply flip over the foam cleaner pads in the Ester filters for longer service life. This design works perfectly with any 3D printer that has access to the filament path before it enters the extruder. Choose from two options: the standard model (III) and the heavy-duty version (IX), which boasts thicker guides to handle heavier loads. Thanks for taking a look at this addition to Thingiverse! Instructions I created this print using high-quality PLA at a precision of 0.25mm, with a strong hex infill of 30%. Slicing was done with three shell layers around the entire model. The spring used comes from a standard clothespin and the foam pieces are made from Ester (polyurethane) material found in old camera cases. For those wondering about lubricants, I personally don't recommend using them in filament cleaners – but you're free to do so if you see fit with this design.
