The M1A4E3 Abrams burst onto the scene in 2020 as the M1AWSTB (Advanced Weapons Systems Test Bed), when the U.S. Army issued a call for a more potent armament to equip its M1A3 tanks. After four years and three developmental prototypes, the A4E3 finally rolled out into service. The entire program came with a hefty price tag of over $16 billion dollars from concept to production, with each tank costing a staggering $32 million to manufacture - a figure that limited production to just 196 examples. The new behemoth boasted a host of innovative features and advantages over its predecessors, cementing its status as the crème de la crème of current generation tanks. The XMX-100 Bi-lateral Railgun marked a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first magnetic projection weapon ever to see operational service. This marvel of engineering was capable of unleashing a 48lb projectile at a muzzle velocity of over 8,100 feet per second - or just over Mach 7 - generating an impact force of over 107,000 newtons. The M1A4E3 was poised to revolutionize tank warfare in the mid 2020’s.
