Here we have an American-made M16A1 bounding anti-personnel mine, fielded around 1960 and utilized during the Vietnam war. Its design and functionality are rooted in captured plans of the German 'S Mine', a WW2-era device also known as the "Bouncing Betty". The mine is buried underground, awaiting activation when sufficient pressure is applied to its prongs, propelling the payload into the air where it detonates, dispersing steel fragments in a 360-degree manner.
