M.E.T. The Modular Esspresso Tamper

M.E.T. The Modular Esspresso Tamper

As Christmas approaches, serve your guests a perfect espresso on Christmas Eve by ensuring you have the right tamper. The tamper should fit snugly into the mesh-carrier without gaps that allow water to bypass the coffee. I've designed a modular tamper that can be printed in different colors and foot diameters, with options to turn the foot out of aluminum or wood. In version 1.01 (dated January 1, 2014), I added a 57mm foot for Lelit machines. To build your tamper, you'll need a screw M6x35mm and a set of taps M6. After attaching the parts, cut a M6 thread in the upper hole of the foot, being cautious and removing swarf as needed. The freeCAD file "foot_50mm" can be edited for your desired diameter, and you can share your preferred diameter in comments to potentially merge similar requests. Be aware that the pins attaching the grip and cap may break, so I've included a nut on the bottom of the cap to prevent this. Happy building!
