From the M'Bole People of Zaire, this ancient carving stands out with a rich, variegated brown patina that has been weathered to perfection by time. The male figure, crafted from solid wood, stretches forward with an elongated torso that gives it a dynamic presence. White kaolin accents add a subtle touch of elegance, as the arms extend outward from the body and rest gently on the upper thighs. The small, concave face is a masterpiece of indigenous craftsmanship, featuring seed-like eyes and a round mouth that seems to curve into a gentle smile. A double crested head treatment adds a touch of sophistication, while indigenous rope wraps snugly around the wrists, evoking a sense of connection to the past. Additional rope extends from the neck and secures at the waist for suspension, allowing this beautiful piece to be showcased in all its glory.
