Model M-94 Cipher Device - A Notable Historical Artifact The Cipher Device Model M-94 played a significant role in U.S. Army communication from 1923 to 1942. This device comprises of 25 alphabet discs and a shaft. The unique feature is that the disks can be arranged on the shaft in various orders, rotated or fixed relative to each other. Each disk's rim displays a different, disordered alphabet, while their inner surface bears numbers from 1 to 25.
