Reinhoud of Haese was born in 1928 and passed away on July 1, 2007, in France. This Belgian sculptor is a member of the CoBrA group. He made his debut as a goldsmith in Brussels before attending the National School of Architecture and Decorative Arts to learn metalwork sculpture. In 1950, he joined the Marais workshops in Brussels, an incubator for the Cobra group where artists transform and collaborate. There, he met Christian Dotremont, Luc de Heusch, Alechinsky, and Hugo Claus, who would accompany him throughout his career. After Ateliers du Marais disbanded, Taptoe's experimental gallery in Brussels showcased Reinhoud's work in 1956 with the award-winning show that included pieces like Mosquito and Snoop. From then on, Reinhoud increasingly unleashed his imagination to create sculptures of animals, plants, and especially characters, a catalog in the tradition of The Heather. Most of his remarkable and enigmatic sculptures have titles like It lacks only the floor must sing in Chinese or where there is talk of a double bass, Misses James and a slice of apple. In total, over 3,000 unique sculptures made from brass, copper, ceramic, wood, or even bread expose Reinhoud's fantastic bestiary and vision of man as rooted in the living daily without hiding anything from its roots by Brueghel or Bosch CoBrA. In 2010-2011, a first retrospective exhibition dedicated to him was held at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels featuring his sculpted works and drawings from the 1960s to the 2000s.
