Luxeon Star Mounting Bracket

Luxeon Star Mounting Bracket

thingiverse

A mounting bracket for when you need to attach a Luxeon-star style LED to a conductive heat sink and worry about the bolts/screws shorting out on the pads. Fits over the top of the star with small channels in which to fit solder connections (lay them flat) and then metal bolts can be used in the notches without touching solder pads. A flexible filament might be ideal, but any non-conductive material should work fine. Make sure to have enough heat dissipation that it doesn't get above the glass transition point of the material (e.g. ~50C for PLA) or it could start to sag. I'm using a huge aluminum extrusion as both a lamp base and heat sink. Two versions: the first for well-formed stars with decent, centered soldering jobs. The second has more space for cheaper or hand-soldered stars where the LED alignment isn't great or the solder especially blobby. That one will be trickier to print but fit more weird stars without having to reflow them.
