Lunar Sampler_9
grabcad
The lunar surface material retrieval device features an auger driven by a motor to move collected samples to a sorting tray. Smaller materials under 5mm are discarded, while larger ones fall into a selector drum. Fines pass through a screened opening and land in the second selector drum. Unwanted samples can be rejected or selected for packaging using six sample containers that can be rotated as needed. The system is made primarily of aluminum, with teflon material sweepers, and its sample container carriage may be 3D printed. When sampling is complete at a location, the lander raises the sampler to move to another area of interest, ensuring efficient use of limited power by operating one motor at a time.
