Luna from Destination Moon

thingiverse

This iconic spaceship from Destination Moon, a 1950 sci-fi classic, showcases astronomical art by Chesley Bonestell, who served as the film's technical advisor. Based on MorBius' model in the SketchUp 3D Warehouse (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=24db45a97b5b8a616a12484fa9d9be10), a one-piece version was refined and restored using Netfabb. The model was then printed in PLA with supports and raft enabled. On October 21, 2015, an updated file called "Luna-Thicker Wings.stl" was posted, offering improved printing results compared to the original "Destination Moon" file. Luna Top and Luna Bottom models were designed based on this version for larger prints. Printers that are well-tuned can print Luna Bottom/Top without supports. However, V2 versions released in December 2016 offer even better results. For a display stand, visit http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:654300. On December 31, 2016, updated models called Luna-simplified.stl and screw-together designs for larger sizes were posted, becoming the recommended version for printing. These new models print well at any size without support. Thanks to muzz64 for contributing the screw-together parts, making these models superior to previous versions.
