OverviewThis was a university project back in 2003. I always liked the idea but had no way to make it, especially since it was originally designed for injection molding.Fast forward 20 years and I found the original CAD files and graphics, which inspired a redesign to suit resin 3D printing. This proof of concept is working but I'd still like to improve it a lot more. This project is covered in full on YouTube: Source CADA STEP of all components is included for convenience, but it's more effective to export components in a format of your choice from the source Onshape document (no account required). Just right click on any part and select export.https://cad.onshape.com/documents/7f62e696df6f31ad3f7dfade/w/a9cf06644bcb5fd105f7d81b/e/71557c56e5c1d7e134a1fcc5?renderMode=0&uiState=64827c5238d1070aff1fa577HardwareThe hardware for this version is largely based on what on already had on hand. The following is needed:3 x 18650 Li-ion cells6x battery clips/terminals. I took mine from a 4 x AA battery compartment.6 x white 5mm LEDs1 x 160 ohm resistor1 x mini rocker switch: https://www.altronics.com.au/p/s3201-spdt-ultra-mini-rocker-switch/SparkFun Lipo/Li ion Charger: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/104013 x rare earth magnets: https://www.jaycar.com.au/large-rare-earth-magnets-sold-as-a-pair/p/LM16521 x hollow, flexible gooseneck. These are easy to extact from inexpensive lights.6 x large self tapping screws2 x small self tapping screwsJST connector (optional but recommended): https://www.jaycar.com.au/jst-crimp-connectors-2-way/p/PT4452Red and black electrical wirePlease use the source CAD to make adjustments as neccessary for any hardware you substitute. Moving the switch to the neck as per the original design and changing to a battery management system instead of a simple charger would be my first recommendations. This would simplify the wiring and eliminate the need for the JST plugs.PrintingOne of each compoment is needed. I rotated them to have the internals facings the build plate, so that support structures would leave as few blemishes as possible on the outer surfaces. Light or medium auto supports should be sufficient.Post ProcessingUse sanding and scraping tools to remove any blemishes remaining from support material. It is important that the magnets can sit snugly in their compartments.WiringTwo schematics are provided. The six LEDS are connected in parallel. The resistor and switch are in series between the LED array and battery. The battery is formed from the three cells also being connected in parallel. The charger is connected in parallel to the battery. The entire circuit is low current, so when coupled with three cells in parallel,  should provide a long run time.AssemblyPlease refer to the video above for a guide to assembly. The CAD and video should make it clear where each component sits. Room is tight for wires when attaching the lower housing to the upper housing.Take care when inserting nd handling the magnets! They are very strong and will magically fly towards each other or nearby metakl if you are not careful.
