In the study, L2 and L3 lumbar vertebrae were sectioned from CT scan images (available on Osirix website); they were then meshed using Simpleware ScanIP + FE module. The resulting data was converted to a NURBS model and exported to Solidworks for rendering purposes. This model was instrumental in spinal implant design and performing finite element analysis on Abaqus.
