A custom fan duct designed specifically for the Lulzbot Taz 5 printer, replaces the standard radial fan with a new unit that provides improved airflow and visibility. The addition of two mounting holes allows users to install normal 5mm white LEDs, which are strategically positioned to block the glare from the back of the LEDs when shining towards the user. As the fan operates at 5v, it's possible to power the LEDs using the same leads that supply the fan, streamlining the installation process. To ensure safe and efficient LED operation, a resistor is connected in series with each LED, with the specific value depending on the type of LED being used. Users can easily determine the required resistor value by measuring the forward voltage at 20mA, a standard operating point for many LEDs. The small loops incorporated into the design serve as a convenient holder for the LED wires, keeping them securely in place during operation.
