Lulzbot TAZ anti-backlash Z-nut and motor to M6 mount mod
thingiverse
Print two sets of each part, preferably using ABS for the Z-nut and Nylon for the motor to M6 components to boost strength and flexibility. You will require eight short M3 insert nuts with an insertion tool (available at McMaster Carr), two extra brass M6 nuts from McMaster again, eight M3x16 bolts with Nyloc M3 nuts for the motor to M6 mount, springs along with the two brass M6 nuts from your existing TAZ Z-nut, four 1/8" pins (dowel or drills for assembly purposes), and seven to eleven optional LM10UU linear ball bearings. Begin by disassembling the z-nut spring and PVC motor to M6 couplings on your TAZ. To assemble the Z-nut spring, remove support material from the spring window using a knife, insert eight insert nuts in the mounting holes, ream the four assembly holes to 1/8" (3.175mm) and test pin placement, install a brass nut in the hex pocket, insert pins into the holes, place another M6 nut in the hex socket, compress the spring between flat pliers (be cautious not to pinch your fingers), push the compressed spring into the front slot of the Z-nut, push it into the counterbore on the bottom and onto the brass nut, thread the M6 rod through both nuts, and remove assembly pins before greasing the rod. For the motor to M6 mounts, ream 3mm holes if necessary, attach the B-half against the flat on the stepper motor, place the A-half opposite the B-half, secure both halves with M3 screws and Nyloc nuts loosely, insert the M6 rod from above, and tighten the M3 nuts.
