I have thick fingers, so switching filament quickly can be challenging with the standard idler arm and latch. I found that the idler arm wore down rapidly at the point where the filament first emerged, prompting me to modify it into a funnel shape to extend its lifespan. I also redesigned the area where the filament passes through as a funnel to minimize wear on the idler arm. The funnel in the arm facilitates effortless filament changes, guiding stiff 2.85mm filament smoothly into the hot end. I added a tab on the side for quick opening and closing of the idler arm. This modification enables users to open and close the head swiftly with one hand, ideal for rapidly changing filament colors. When combined, these two improvements surpass the factory-printed idler arms and latches.
