Lulzbot Mini wibbly wobbly, timey wimey spool arm upgrade
thingiverse
I had a 5/16x2-1/2 bolt and a handful of 608 skate board bearings just collecting dust, so I decided to give them a job to do. The Mini hadn't given me any trouble before, but spool holders with bearings were getting a lot of attention. What a difference it made! This design isn't perfect, but it gets the job done. By allowing the spool to move freely and pivot as the extruder glides through the build area, I was able to reduce the stress on the filament, resulting in a smoother and more consistent finished product. It's not the prettiest thing, but unless something goes wrong with the first prototype, I probably won't bother to refine or make it look nicer. Feel free to take my design and make it your own. Update: There's a new version of this available here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2837766 How It Was Made: This design is mostly made up of modified geometry from MPCNC and Lulzbot's open source meshes, with a little extra love thrown in.
