Lulzbot Mini Filament Mount
thingiverse
The Lulzbot Mini boasts a sleek rectangular arm designed specifically for holding the filament spool in place. Unfortunately, this setup causes a jerky motion as the spool drags against the arm, resulting in an inconsistent printing experience. To address this issue, several innovative designers have created custom spool holders that seamlessly integrate with the Mini's framework. My solution to this problem revolves around a sturdy ⅜ x 5” hex bolt that serves as the foundation for my Mounting bracket. By replacing the standard arm, I've successfully eliminated the jerky motion associated with traditional setups. The cylinder, comprising two expertly glued parts, forms the core of this design. One of the key benefits of this setup is its remarkably low friction level, which translates to a silky-smooth operation. In fact, the spool even tends to roll back when the head rises, ensuring a hassle-free printing experience. Furthermore, the shoulder on the cylinder perfectly accommodates various brands of filament, requiring no additional fastening or tightening to secure it in place. The entire system operates with complete freedom, thanks to its free-floating design. I opted for PLA as my material of choice due to its versatility and ease of use.
