I've just come across another design on tested.com and I have to say, this guy has done an even more impressive job than me. I'd highly recommend checking out his designs before trying this one: https://www.youmagine.com/designs/star-wars-lightsaber-complex-version https://www.youmagine.com/designs/star-wars-lightsaber-normal-version This model started out as a recreation of a prop I saw online years ago, and I wanted to see if it could be printed on an FDM printer. So, I split up the model into manageable pieces and attached threads, and this is what you see here. Note that I did try printing this out, but I ran into some issues with warping, which was totally my fault - the cold weather got the best of me. Luckily, the model itself held up nicely, despite the less-than-ideal print job. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send me a message. Some additional notes: -The curved pieces that are supposed to fit into the activation button panel didn't print out properly in my test run, but I think I've ironed out the issue. If you encounter problems with this, please let me know! -I used a Flashforge Creator to do my test print. -This model is 28cm tall when fully assembled, scaled at 1:1. -The spacing between male and female threads is a precision-tuned 0.3mm. -ABS is highly recommended for the threads, as are multiple shells to prevent breakage. Some parts may need gluing together - they're too small to get decent detail out of them on their own! Looking ahead to future iterations: -Blade fittings: someone requested a model that allows you to attach real blades from places like online retailers. I plan to look into this and make it happen! -Smaller parts that clip together and onto the blade (still a work in progress...).
